Though enforcement of the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), which amended the currently-paused California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the State of California is not resting when it comes to its compliance.
On July 14, 2023, California’s Attorney General Rob Bonta announced an “investigative sweep” regarding compliance with the CCPA. The Attorney General plans to send inquiry letters to large California employers requesting information on compliance with the CCPA with respect to personal information of employees and job applicants. Effective January 1, 2023, under the CCPA, coverage was extended to employees and applicants.
